Mohammad Yousuf (formerly Yousuf Youhana, born 27 August 1974, Lahore, Punjab, Pakistan) is a Pakistani cricketer who has been a member of the Pakistani national cricket team since 1998. He is best known for his achievement in 2006 when he broke the great West Indian batsman, Sir Vivian Richards', world record for the most Test runs in a single calendar year. Prior to his conversion to Islam in 2005, Yousuf was one of the few Christians to play in the Pakistan national cricket team. He made his Test debut against South Africa at Durban and ODI debut against Zimbabwe at Harare. He has scored over 9,000 ODI runs at an average of 43.63 (2rd highest batting average among Pakistani batsmen after Zaheer Abbas and 6,770 Test runs at an average of 55.49 (highest batting average amongst all Pakistani batsmen) with 23 Test centuries. He has the record of scoring the most runs without being dismissed in ODIs, 405 against Zimbabwe in Zimbabwe in 2002-03. He has also scored a 23-ball fifty in ODIs, and a 68-ball hundred. In Tests he has scored a 27-ball fifty, which is 3rd fastest by any player. He was top scorer during the successive years of 2002 and 2003 in the world in ODIs. In 2004, he scored a memorable 111 against the Australians in the Boxing Day Test. In December 2005, he scored 223 against England at Lahore, also earning him the man of the match award. Seven months later in July 2006, when Pakistan toured England, he scored 202 and 48 in the first Test, again earning himself the man of the match award. He followed up with 192 in the third Test at Headingley and 128 in the final Test at the Oval. Yousuf was named CNN-IBN.s Cricketer of the Year for 2006, ahead of the likes of Australian captain Ricky Ponting, West Indies Brian Lara, Australian spinner Shane Warne, South Africa.s bowling spearhead Makhaya Ntini and Sri Lanka.s Muttiah Muralitharan. He was selected as a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in the 2007 edition. Yousuf became the fourth recipient of the ICC 'Test Cricketer of the Year' award for 2007, he scored 944 runs at an average of 94.40 including five centuries and two fifties in just 10 innings and that was enough to be awarded the honour ahead of Kevin Pietersen and Ricky Ponting. Yousuf was also named in the 2007 Test team of the Year alongside compatriot Mohammad Asif. A year that started on a promising note, Yousuf carried it forward to break two world records both held earlier by West Indian great Sir Vivian Richards. The 32-year-old smashed an unparalleled 1788 runs in just 11 Test matches with the help of nine centuries . his second record . taking him beyond the Windies great yet again. Yousuf is known for his ability to score runs at exceptional rate through his great technique and composed strokeplay. Although capable of hitting the ball hard, Yousuf is quick between the wickets, although he is prone to being run out. Yousuf is a skillful infielder, with a report prepared in late 2005 showing that since the 1999 Cricket World Cup, he had effected the ninth highest number of run-outs in ODI cricket of any fieldsman. He is also distinguished by his characteristic celebration after hitting one hundred runs for his country, where he prostrates in thankfulness to Allah in the direction of Mecca. He has observed this act (known as the Sajdah) recently since his conversion to Islam.

Until his conversion to Islam in 2005, Mohammad Yousuf (formely known as Yousuf Youhana) was one of a handful of Christians to play for Pakistan. After a difficult debut against South Africa in 1997-98, he quickly established himself as a stylish world-class batsman, and a pillar of Pakistan's middle order, alongside Inzamam-ul-Haq. He is no sluggard, but gathers his runs through orthodox, composed strokeplay, unlike some of his colleagues who seldom hint at permanence. He is particularly strong driving through the covers and flicking wristily off his legs and brings with him as decadent and delicious a backlift as any in the game. A tendency to overbalance when playing across his front leg can get him into trouble. He excels at both versions of the game, and in one-day cricket can score 20 or 30 runs before anyone notices. He is quick between the wickets although not necessarily the best judge of a single. There had been questions about his temperament as batsman when the pressure is on, but between 2004 and 2005, he began to silence critics. First came a spellbindingly languid century against the Australians in Melbourne, as captain to boot, where he ripped into Shane Warne like few Pakistani batsmen have before or since. A century in the cauldron of Kolkatta followed but he ended the year with possibly his most important knock: a double century against England at Lahore so easy on the eye, you almost didn't notice it. With Inzamam missing through injury for parts of the innings, Yousuf displayed an unusual responsibility, eschewing the waftiness that has previously blighted him. In 2006, Yousuf truly came of age in a record-breaking year. He began by plundering India and continued in England, not just scoring under pressure, but scoring big. A double ton at Lord's was followed by another big hundred at Headingly and the Oval. He rounded off a fantastic year with four hundreds in three Tests against the West Indies, a feat that took him past Viv Richards's long-standing record of most Test runs in a calendar year and also saw him establish the record for most Test hundreds (9) in a year. With Inzamam nearing a natural end, the credentials of Yousuf as Pakistan's premier batsman are impressive.

Mohammad Hafeez is a talented all-rounder from Pakistan who was born on October 17, 1980 in Sargodha, Punjab. A right-handed batsman, who opens the batting for his team, Mohammad Hafeez also bowls right-arm off-break besides guarding the boundary skillfully.

Mohammad Hafeez made his Test debut against Bangladesh in Karachi on August 20, 2003 and scored a half-century. It wasn’t long before he hit his maiden Test century, and he reached the three-figure mark in the very next Test. In the tour of England, he scored an effortless 95 runs at the Oval. Mohammad Hafeez also played in the Test match against South Africa at Karachi in October 2007. As of October 2008, he has played 11 Test matches and has scored 677 runs, including two centuries and three half-centuries, at an average of 33.85, with 104 being his highest score. He has also bagged four wickets at an average of 79.75, with an impressive economy rate of 2.55.

Mohammad Hafeez debuted in One Day International (ODI) against Zimbabwe in Sharjah on April 3, 2003 and scalped two wickets and helped the team win the match by 68 runs. He has played 48 ODIs and has scored 874 runs, including four half-centuries, at an average of 18.59, and his highest score at this level is 92. He has also bagged 38 wickets at an average of 33.63.

On August 28, 2006, Mohammad Hafeez debuted in Twenty20 International (T20I) against England in Bristol, where he was the top scorer for Pakistan with 46 runs, including 5 boundaries, and helped it win the match by 5 wickets. So far he has played nine T20Is and scored 182 runs at an average of 20.22 and bagged 7 wickets at an average of 26.00.

Unlike the great Pakistani spinners of yesteryears who were given a chance to play within a couple of years of their first class debut Saeed Ajmal had to spend more than a dozen years in first class cricket before getting a call to play for Pakistan. It is hard to imagine that both Saeed and Saqlain started their first class careers at almost the same time and while Saqlain became a household name with in a couple of years Saeed had to really struggle.

In 2004/05 Ajmal was a part of the Faisalabad Wolves side which won the T20 domestic tournament in Pakistan and therefore booked a ticket to play an ineternational T20 tournament in England. This is where a lot of the Pakistani fans got a first look at Ajmal and the first thing that became obvious was his ability to bowl the doosra, Saeed bamboozled a lot of batsmen with his doosra and played a big part in Faisalabad’s win in the tournament.

Saeed finally made his ODI debut in July 2008 after being recommended by the vice captain Misbah ul Haq. In his very first game he deceived a lot of the Indian batsmen and in the context of a really high scoring game his figures of 1/47 were more than satisfactory and helped Pakistan win the game. In the next game Saeed was too hot to handle for the young Bangladeshi batsmen and ended up with figures of 3/19. After being dropped for the T20 tournament in Canada(very controversial decision which caused the chief selector to resign from his post) Saeed came back in the ODI series against WI where he once again impressed with his bowling how ever his fielding was severely criticized after he dropped a couple of real sitters.

Saeed had a very good series in UAE against Australia showing some excellent variety, but suspicions about his action surfaced which he was able to clear from the ICC before joining the squad for the twenty / 20 World Cup. In this tournament Ajmal played a major hand in winning the World Cup for Pakistan. His subtle changes of pace and doosra, bamboozled batsmen and along with Afridi provided an excellent partnership. His captain had enough faith in him to even use him in the final overs. He finished second highest wicket-taker in the tournament and was further rewarded by receiving a test cap against Sri Lanka. Although he is 34 years old, the passion and character he brings to the field it makes you feel he will be around for a while yet.
Saeed Ajmal gained the #1 ranking among ODI bowlers after a splended series against Sri Lanka in the UAE. Saeed Ajmal formed a deadly spin trio with fellow colleagues, Mohammad Hafeez and Shahid Afridi.

Shoaib Akhtar Biography receives strong comments from Wasim Akram, Shahrukh, BCCI, PCB, Shoaib Malik, Tauqeer Zia and several others. Wasim Akram has termed it as a cheap publicity move by Shoaib Akhtar. He further said that Shoaib was a “problem” when he was an active player and remains just that even in retirement. Wasim Akram rubbished Akhtar’s claims of making Sachin Tendulkar uncomfortable with his pace in the Faisalabad Test in 2006 as has been claimed by Akhtar in his book titled ‘Controversially Yours’.

“I remember Sachin’s one innings when he was 16 and touring Pakistan. Sialkot Test was Sachin’s 4th Test. He made his debut in that series. There was a lot of grass on the pitch. Waqar and I bowled very fast. Waqar, I think, was 19 and Sachin was 16. Waqar hit him (Sachin) on the helmet just below the chin and he got hurt. But he put a plaster and he came back to score a 50. If a 16-year-old kid wasn’t scared, I don’t think any of the top batsmen in the world is scared of any bowler,” Akram said.

“Maybe he might play on the back foot to block the delivery or maybe he might just see it off. But I don’t think a player like Sachin can get scared of any bowler. He (Shoaib) can write anything to sell a book, but it does not affect me or Sachin,” he said. Cricblogger totally agrees with Wasim on this one. Even though we have critically analysed Tendulkar’s performances and have written about his centuries and of him not being the best of match finishers, we stand with Wasim on this one. Tendulkar is a great batsman and no top batsmen can be scared by any bowler, Ganguly included (pun intended). Cricblogger has also praised Tendulkar’s world records in another article.

On Akhtar’s allegations that Akram was responsible for destroying his career, he said no one but the Shoaib himself was responsible for destroying his career. ”He himself is responsible for destroying his career. Nobody helped him (in destroying his career).” said the King of Swing.

“There is no point in me talking about his book. I still haven’t read his book. But his idea is good. If the books get sold then good luck to him,” Akram said adding that, “You people (media) will ensure his book is a bestseller.”

Shahrukh Khan, the bollywood super star responded to the allegations made by Akhtar in a similar fashion. He said that there is just as much truth in Akhtar’s claim that we (Shahrukh and company) are cheaters as there is in the fact that Sachin fears his (Akhtar’s) bowling.

Rajiv Shukla, a senior BCCI official demanded an apology from Shoaib Akhtar for making such remarks against Sachin Tendulkar and Rahul Dravid. Akhtar had remarked that Sachin and Dravid lacked ability to finish off games early in their respective careers. It seems unnecessary for the BCCI to jump into the swamp, just ignore Shoaib he is just trying to sell his book.

The former PCB chairman, Tauqeer Zia has also rubbished Akhtar’s claim that Zia had helped Akhtar when Wasim Akram tried to destroy his career and threatened to walk off with have the team if Akhtar was selected. Zia said that no such thing happened. Shoaib Malik responded to the allegations by Akhtar that Malik was incompetent to be captain and said that Akhtar’s allegations were a joke.

Meanwhile, there have been some protests in India against the paceman and the opening function of the launch of the book has been cancelled without giving any reason. Shoaib has another public appearance on Monday. Lets see how it goes but one thing is for sure, there are lots of people out there looking to read his book.

Even my blog has seen an unusual rush of visitors on this particular story and the search engines are all flooded with queries about his book and who said what in response. He seems to have achieved his goal, it might just turn out to be a best seller. His slower ball usually works in the midst of bouncers and yorkers. Lets see what he does next.

He has also captained the Pakistani side. He was born in Rawalpindi, Punjab. He made his international debut against the West Indies at Multan. He has taken over 100 catches in Test cricket. He has scored over 3,000 ODI runs and taken over 200 catches in ODI cricket. He is the credited with coining the name of the mystery delivery of Saqlain Mushtaq that went from leg to off as the doosra. He is no longer part of the national side, and has returned to playing first class cricket. In 2005 Moin scored the first century in Pakistan domestic 20-20 cricket when he smashed 112 off 59 balls for Karachi Dolphins against Lahore Lions in the ABN-AMRO 20-20 Cup. At the end of the season he retired from cricket finishing with 200 not out against Hyderabad, his highest first class score. In January 2007 he was arrested in Pakistan for assaulting his wife, Tasneem Khan.In 2007, Moin signed with the unofficial Indian Cricket League and coached the Hyderabad Heroes. In the 2008 edition of the competition he coached the expansion team, the Lahore Badshahs.

Abdul Razzaq was once rapid enough to open the bowling and remains composed enough to bat anywhere, though he is discovering that the lower-order suits him nicely. His bowling – the reason he was first noticed – is characterised by a galloping approach, accuracy, and reverse-swing. But it is his batting that is more likely to win matches. He boasts a prodigious array of strokes and is particularly strong driving through cover and mid-off off both front and back foot. He has two gears: block or blast. Cut off the big shots and Razzaq gets bogged down, although patience is his virtue as he demonstrated in a match-saving fifty against India in Mohali in 2005. Just prior to that he had also played a bewilderingly slow innings in Australia, scoring four runs in over two hours. When the occasion demands it though, as ODIs often do, he can still slog with the best of them: England were pillaged for a 22-ball 51 at the end of 2005. and then again for nearly 60 runs in the last three overs of an ODI in September the following year.

A key member of Pakistan's World Cup-winning squad in 1992, where he was his country’s second highest wicket-taker behind Wasim Akram, Mushtaq also played in the 1996 competition. He was named one of Wisden’s five cricketers of the year in 1997. He had two spells as Somerset’s overseas player in 1993-95 and 1997-98 and replaced the absent Saqlain Mushtaq at Surrey in 2002 before moving to Sussex, where he was named player of the year in his first season. Mushtaq Ahmed is a retired Pakistani cricketer who specialised as a leg spin bowler. He was known for his hard-to-pick googly. He memorably trapped Graeme Hick in front with one during the 1992 World Cup final. He was a Wisden Cricketer of the Year in 1997. Nevertheless, despite taking over 150 One Day International and Test wickets, he hasn't played international cricket since October 2003. He is now the spin bowling coach for the England Cricket Team.

However, he has played a lot of county cricket in England, including for Somerset and Surrey earlier in his career and more recently for Sussex.

In 2003, Mushtaq was the leading wicket taker in county cricket, finishing the season with 103 and inspiring Sussex to its first County Championship title. Following this, he was recalled by Pakistan but was soon dropped for being ineffective. In the 2004 season, Mushtaq was again the leading wicket taker in English county cricket with 84 scalps, but with Danish Kaneria's emergence as Pakistan's first-choice leg spinner, Mushtaq's international career was over.

In December 2006, the PCB appointed Mushtaq as assistant coach of the Pakistan team. He acted as interim coach for team's final game of the 2007 World Cup following the death of Bob Woolmer.

In 2006, Mushtaq (or "Mushy" as he is best known to Sussex fans) took 102 wickets as Sussex once more won the County Championship, as well as the C&G Trophy. He began the last Championship match of the season, against Nottinghamshire, on 89 wickets, but a haul of 13 in the match (including a career-best 9-48 in the second innings) took him past the hundred mark once again.

In 2007, Sussex won the County Championship for the second time in two years, again helped greatly by Mushtaq, who took 90 wickets.

Domestic career

Mushtaq Ahmed had an amazing turn of fortune in 2002 when he was given a trial by Sussex County Cricket Club. He became the leading county wicket taker for four seasons in a row, playing a major role in Sussex's first ever county championship title.

On the 27 August 2008, it was announced by Sussex that Mushtaq was to retire from county cricket due to persistent knee trouble that had prevented him playing regularly during the 2008 season. He announced his intention to continue playing for Indian Cricket League (ICL) side Lahore Badshahs and in an interview with PakPassion.Net in September 2008, he wished that ICL would co-exist with IPL as well as mentioning his intention to begin coaching either in UK or Pakistan
